The shortest commute to training in Scotland

Dunfermline is 20 minutes from the yard on the A92, and Rosyth, Inverkeithing, Cowdenbeath and Crossgates are closer again. That matters more than it sounds: training days are physically and mentally demanding, and finishing at four with a 20-minute drive home is a very different week to finishing at four with two hours ahead of you.

It also makes split training practical. West Fife trainees who cannot take a full week off routinely do two days, then three, then the test — something that is much harder to justify for someone travelling from Aberdeen.

Choosing between C1, Category C and C+E

C1 covers 3,500kg to 7,500kg — horseboxes, larger vans, utility and delivery vehicles. If you passed your car test after 1 January 1997 you do not hold it automatically and will need to take it. It is our shortest and cheapest lorry course at £995.

Category C covers rigid vehicles over 3,500kg with no upper weight limit and is the standard first professional licence. C+E adds a trailer and is what artic work requires; it can only be taken once you hold C. Combined C and C+E programmes are the most economical route if artic work is the goal from day one.

CPC periodic training on your doorstep

Every professional driver needs 35 hours of Driver CPC periodic training every five years, taken as five 7-hour modules. Ours run from the same Kirkcaldy yard and are uploaded to your DQC record, so west Fife drivers can complete a module and be home inside a working day.

If your DQC has already expired you have not lost your licence — you simply cannot drive professionally until the 35 hours are complete. There is no need to retake tests, and we run modules frequently enough to get lapsed drivers back on the road quickly.

How quickly can I start?
Once your provisional entitlement and theory are in place we can usually get you into a practical block within a couple of weeks — call us and we'll check live dates.
Do you do CPC periodic training too?
Yes — all five 7-hour modules for the 35-hour cycle, uploaded to your DQC record.
Can I complete a course over several weekends?
Yes, and being 20 minutes away makes it easy. Split blocks need booking slightly further in advance so the vehicle and instructor are reserved for each date.
Do you help with the DVLA paperwork?
We take you through the D2 and D4 forms, tell you what the doctor needs to complete, and flag the mistakes that cause DVLA to send applications back. It is the stage that delays people most.
What is Category 3a and do I need it?
It is the off-road reversing manoeuvre element of the LGV test. Everyone taking a lorry test does it — the difference here is that our Delegated DVSA Examiner conducts it at our own yard rather than you waiting for a DVSA slot.
Do you offer driver assessments for local employers?
Yes — we carry out independent driver assessments for hauliers and agencies across Fife, covering vehicle handling, walkaround checks, hours compliance and defensive driving.
